Mina Ashido
My Hero Academia/Boku no Hero Academia
Inspiration: Earlier this year all I kept hearing was how I needed to check out My Hero Academia and eventually I caved in. After the first few episodes I was hooked, and when I finished the anime, I continued on in the manga because I wanted more. There’s actually quite a few characters I want to cosplay from the series, but I started with Mina because she’s a fun character and I actually really wanted to try out sclera lenses.
Materials/Construction Details: I purchased the school uniform, because it was so readily accessible. Upon receiving it I had to do quite a bit of tailoring to get it to fit the way I wanted, which included shortening the coat and sleeves, taking it in in several places, and resecuring the buttons. Overall, I was very pleased with how the uniform looked though!
I made Mina’s horns out of worbla covered craft foam, which I attached to a thin headband painted to match my wig color. I used liquid Mehron bodypaint in pink mixed with white and a tiny bit of purple for the body makeup. I only painted my face and neck. For my legs and arms I bought tights and gloves from We Love Colors in light pink. I added some fake nails to the gloves to make them look more natural, and while that did the trick, it felt very strange.
Wig: The wig I wanted to use for this costume got lost in the mail, but I was able to grab a quick replacement off of Amazon prime at the last minute. With a little bit of hair spray and heat from a hair dryer, I was able to style the various spikes throughout the wig. I used a razor cutter to trim the bangs and hair around the face.
